Common Toyota Gearbox / Transmission Issues: Automatic and Manual

Check if your toyota shows one or more signs of transmission issues:

Harsh shifts when changing gears. Example – Toyota Land Cruiser (30-43LE / A343F automatic): sudden jolts during gear changes indicate worn clutches and low oil pressure in the valve body.
Slipping and rising RPM during acceleration. On a Toyota Camry with the U140E transmission, wear of the rear cover can cause the direct clutch pack to burn out: during acceleration you feel slipping and the engine revs increase.
Overheating and oil starvation. On Land Cruiser 80–100 series, overheating and low oil levels are common: boiling oil and burnt seals lead to failure of the torque converter and clutches. This shows up as loss of power and the transmission “boiling over.”
Electronics failures. On the Toyota RAV4 (U140 automatic), ECU faults are frequent. The valve body receives incorrect signals, causing jerks and irregular gear operation.
