Common Chevrolet Gearbox / Transmission Issues: Automatic and Manual

Check if your chevrolet shows one or more common signs of transmission issues:

Solenoid block failure (6-speed GM automatics) — in Chevrolet Cruze, Malibu, Captiva, etc., valve body solenoids often fail. This causes strong jerks and jolts when shifting (especially on a warm gearbox).
Overheating / low oil level — under heavy use (towing, city driving), ATF overheats: a burning oil smell may appear inside the cabin, gears jerk or “hang” when shifting. Other symptoms include unstable gear engagement and loss of power.
Oil leaks — worn seals cause oil leakage from the pan and/or sensors. As pressure drops, harsh shifts and slipping occur. Regular oil checks (every 10–15k km) are important to prevent these issues.
“Gear drift” — a sign of valve body wear or electronic failure: in Chevy (e.g. Lacetti, Cruze), gears may spontaneously shift up or down. The Check Engine light often appears, requiring urgent diagnostics.
